METHODOLOGY

How SitemapWise makes recommendations

The tool is deliberately conservative. It analyzes a bounded sample of public sitemap URLs and turns common technical signals into four decisions.

Keep

The URL returned a normal successful response and no obvious sitemap/indexability conflict was found in the signals checked.

Replace

The sitemap URL redirects to a final successful destination and no obvious noindex or canonical conflict is found on that final page. Cross-domain and ambiguous redirect destinations default to Review.

Remove

Reserved for relatively clear cases such as 404/410 responses or explicit noindex directives. The recommendation always includes context because website intent matters.

Review

Used for ambiguous or unreliable situations: robots blocks, canonical conflicts, canonical targets that redirect, server errors, timeouts and fetch failures. Review is the safe default.

What the tool does not know

It cannot prove whether Google currently indexes a URL, cannot know your business intent, does not render JavaScript like a browser, and does not automatically modify your sitemap. V1 analyzes at most 50 sitemap URLs per run.
